On the 29th of June, our mentor (Arlene Yates) went up to Perth. She brought back 2 Awards: Achieve & Champion! I was so happy that we have achieved this standard. On the Friday at Assembly, we had 2 guests Lisa Rooke & Jess Sankey join us to celebrate our achievements. Lisa came up to the front of the Assembly & called us out to join her. What is your most memorable moment coordinating activities?
I have two very special memorable moments in my time as TravelSmart Champion at GSG.
The first was the morning of our inaugural Bikefest - seeing more than 100 students arriving with their bikes and scooters ready to take part. It was such an overwhelming response, supported by parents as our path to school was not yet built and it was impossible to ride to school to take part.

The TravelSmart team are busily working behind the scenes with one of Perth’s top website developers building a new easy to use website!
The new innovative website is being designed from the ground up to act as a central portal for the School, Household and Workplace programs.

The Low Carbon Schools Pilot Program is a new two year program developed in WA to assist schools to improve sustainability, reduce their carbon footprint and educate tomorrow’s leaders about sustainable resource consumption.
The pilot program includes a transport component which is based on the TravelSmart to School program, and helps schools reduce their carbon output associated with commuting.

There are some amazing things going on in regards to Travelsmart this term at Lakelands. Firstly we would like to welcome Miss Dhue who has joined our awesome Travelsmart team who will be taking over from Mrs Ham while she is on maternity leave. We are pleased to announce that we have completed and acquitted our 2015/16 Connecting Schools Grant Program. Thank you to the Department of Transport and to the the Nedlands Primary School P&C Association, who funded 50% of the grant expenses.
The grant included the following programs and equipment installations - and photos below:
1. Bike racks for 50 bikes
2. Modifying school entrances to accommodate bike traffic

As part of the Western Australian Bicycle Network Grants program, schools can now apply for a Connecting Schools Grant for 2017-18. These grants fund up to 50% of total project costs with the other 50% funded by your school, local government funding or non government funding.
