We were very lucky on Monday to have Tim Hill from HotRock come to our school to work with the TravelSmart team and share his Kids Teaching Kids experience. We worked with Tim for two hours and discussed all our great ideas about our presentation at this years end of year TravelSmart to school showcase. Tim was very helpful and we all had a great time! Tim helped us plan our presentation and it sounds like it will be great! We have a lot of work to do! We're not going to share our ideas with…Continue
Southwell PS is looking forward to Dorte' visiting our school for our assembly to talk to the students about what TravelSmart is all about. Hopefully this will inspire some students to join my TravelSmart crew when I put out the call. We are also super thankful to Kath Merrick for helping us out with our stencils and helping out Success with getting theirs back from us as we seems to have held them hostage for some time due to the weather. Thanks also to Nathan from Success PS for lending…Continue

It was decided to encourage students to participate in Enviroweek we would hold a raffle. Each time a student walked or wheeled to school they would receive a raffle ticket. The more you walked or wheeled the more tickets you had in the raffle. This has proved to be popular. In order to stop extra raffle tickets being given out the students had to bring their travel smart card to the raffle table to exchange it for a raffle ticket. The students wrote their name and room number on and place…Continue

Just when Southwell P.S. gets ready to paint out feet around the school etc, the wet weather sets in for a week or so. We need it to dry out for a couple of days in a row for us to be able to lay down the walking feet and stop signs. Big thank you to Nathan and Success Primary School for lending us your templates for so long. They will be returned this week as we will order some as it is taking way to long to get these dry days that are needed.
On Thursday 8th August Success PS held a Winter Walk day. The aim of the event was to remind students and parent they can still walk to school when it is raining. They just need to wear a rain jacket and use an umbrella. To help promote the event students were encouraged to decorate their umbrella and participate in an …Continue

We are challenging the students to try and walk or wheel to school every day next week. We started by putting up posters yesterday to build some interest. Cathy has just confirmed that she and hopefully the whole TravelSmart team will be attending the TravelSmart Showcase 2013. City Farm is in a great location for us to use the train from Mandurah. It will be great to meet everyone and get some more inspiration. See you there.

As part of our TravelSmart Star Card scheme we decided, in conference with the school deputy principal, to give out gotcha cards as an incentive for continued participation. The gotcha cards are a reward system that already exists in the school for students who demonstrate the values of the school. Getting the students active is one of the school's goals at the moment.
If students are given a gotcha card they have earned 2 points for their faction. There are prizes for the winning…Continue
On 2nd July, Bibra Lake Primary held a whole school Science and Sustainability Day. Rooms 1 and 10 (Years 2 and 4) drew a picture of a tiny thing they saw on their way to school during the TravelSmart competition. Ms. Oates read the book 'Ten Tiny Things' to the children and then they drew something they saw. The children appreciated that they would not have seen these things if they had come to school by car.
Here's a photo of some of our drawings:…Continue
Success PS TravelSmart Team has put Wednesday 6th November in the calendar for the 2013 TravelSmart Showcase. Mr Crawfford will be attending with the six TravelSmart team members: Chloe, Harshita, Reece, Stephanie, Emily and Abel. We will be travelling by bus and train to attend the Showcase. Everyone can not wait to meet and share ideas with other schools!
We have started the TravelSmart Star Cards scheme. The first thing we did was send out a letter to the parents explaining the prodedure.
Last Wednesday was a very successful morning. The student team divided up the classroom blocks so the cards could then be placed in the appropriate boxes. We decided…Continue

We have had a few of the parents saying that they live too far away from the school to walk or bike. We suggested to them that they park and walk. Near the school there is a large park area and the beach which both have parking. By parking there the students get a good walk to school and the traffic around the school continues to be reduced. Below is the note that was sent out to parents with this suggestion.…Continue
