Walk To School Week

Lakelands is a brand new school which opened this year. Over the year we have been trying out different ideas to encourage students to walk, ride or scoot to school. During the year we hosted different events which usually ran for one day each term, however we were finding the partipation wasn't where we wanted it to be. So for Term 4 we decided to do a scavenger hunt that ran throughout the week to see if our participation would increase. Needless to say the event was a huge hit…

Thank you

Many thanks for the great rewards that we are able to get.  The children love the prizes and without your support we would not be able to hold these competitions and raffles.  It is very much appreciated as is all the support we receive.

Thanks again,

Maria Clapsis

GSG Walks to School on New Footpath

THANK YOU to all students, parents, staff and families who participated in our Walk To School Day event this morning. What a fantastic turnout! Around 100 people walked from Coraki Park to GSG via the new dual use footpath. What was a 4km walk via a very dangerous piece of roadway is now a 2km walk along the tranquil foreshore of Oyster Harbour. Thank you to all who made this possible, including Kalgan Ward Councillor Jenelle Price who walked with us this morning.…

Bike Education at St. Augustine's - an account by Veroonika

Bike Ed was really fun. The Year Fives and I learned a lot. There were three people who learned how to ride from scratch (one girl and two boys) and one person who forgot how to ride and learned again. The rest of us learned loads of things like: signals, emergency stop, ABC test (air, brakes, chain) and some add D and E (drop and enjoy), scanning front and back, riding slowly, how to use gears and more.

Most people enjoyed it. Some things were hard to learn. Most people tried hard…

Bike Education at St Augustine's - accounts by Seshan and Cameron

In Bike Ed we learnt everything about bikes, safety tips and how to ride a bike safely. We were taught by Mike and Kirsten. They were really nice.

My favourite part was when we had the race down Gladstone Rd. It was really fun and was my favourite part of Bike Ed.

The safety tips that Mike and Kirsten taught us were how to ride a bike safely and properly. They showed us how to use safety brakes and hand signals and to stop and give way. They even taught us that when we turned…

Bike Education at St Augustine's - accounts by Callum and Liam

Monday: Today is the first day of Bike Ed and everyone is exited. The instructors Mike and Kirsten taught us the ABC bike checklist. Luckily Kirsten pumped up our tires, oiled our chain and checked our breaks. Then Mike set up a track for us to play a version of Simon Says.

Tuesday: Mike was away so Richard and Kirsten taught us bike ed. Today was so far the best lesson because we learnt about gears and we did several slow bike races.

Wednesday: Today we had a race up a steep road…
