Goal Achieved

At the start of the year, our TS Team set a goal  of having 50% of classes in double digits for our Toesday count. In Week 2 of this term, we achieved the most double digits so far with 9 classes out of 14 in double digits. That's definitely more than half. Even though our Team has reached that 50% goal we are staying with the 50% but trying to get higher double digits.

Kim.

(Mentor's note: in the count to which Kim was referring the average double digit was 14 and the % of…

Star Cards a Success Story

Star Cards have been a great way of getting students to use Active Transport to get to school. I have found that it is mainly the same ones walking all the time. We do our Star Cards by getting anyone using Active Transport to write their names and room numbers on  raffle tickets, then match up the raffle ticket with the Star Card. (if this is the first time, we write out a Star Card.) Then we punch out a Star on the Star Card. During Walk Over October we have also given people stars for…

From our Roving Reporters: Bike Ed 2015.

Jarmonie interviewed Year 3 student, Kaylee about Bike Ed:

" I reached Level 1 and got a certificate. I learned how to brake going downhill & not to go over the handle bars. I learned how to use a single bar and a double bar too. It was really fun  learning. The best bit was while we were riding we had to get stuff off of the cones. I didn't like  at the start because it was all about the basics. I'm glad I did Bike Ed because I made new friends from the other classes. I like our…

We Walked Over October!

Yesterday was our big TravelSmart Day.  We arrived at school at 8am and stood at all the school gates handing out stickers and raffle tickets to all TravelSmart students.  Even the family dog received a TravelSmart sticker! When the bell rang we drew 30 raffle tickets, ten each for 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes.  At recess students with the winning tickets collected their prizes.

We also did the hands-up survey again.  There was a 10% increase in students being TravelSmart because of our…

Walk Over October 2015

St Columba's Primary School has done a fantastic effort walking over October.

We planned and celebrated Walk to School Day (by advertising the event in the newsletter with a map of where to meet/date).  On the day, we had 6 teachers and more than 50 students walk to school.  It was fun!  The teachers all walked on our Walking School Bus (that has been operating Wed & Fri's since 2010).

At the Monday Assembly (26/10/2015) all those that walked on Walk to School Day were…

Feet, smiley faces and stop signs!

I painted the feet with Amirah. We both did a foot each. We worked together and had lots of fun. The colour we used was dark blue. We had to use one thin brush (for the toes) and one thicker brush (for the rest of the foot). It was really fun. Everyone enjoyed it! [editor: see photos here]

Great Scott! It's Walk to School Day and Back to the Future Day

According to the 1989 movie Back to the Future II, some of us should have used a hoverboard to get to school today. That's right... the 21 October 2015 is also Back to the Future Day.

The movie predicted that in 2015 we'd be using hoverboards to get around, we'd be wearing self-tying sneakers, eating hydrated pizza and watching flat-screen tvs. They got some things right.…

Our first school event - October 21st, 2015

Winterfold Primary School had our first Walk to School Wednesday on October 21st.  This was our first event for school.  It was simple yet absolutely fantastic!

The event was placed in the newsletter and an announcement was made over the speaker at the end of Tuesday.

We had an amazing amount of students walking to school.  There were also a number of students who rode their bike or scooter.

We have two entries points that are used the most into our school.  Both of…

Celebration!

South Padbury Primary School is really looking forward to this year's  Walk to School Day, which we are holding on Wednesday 21 October. For us, it marks the end of our first 12 months -and the start of our continuing journey.

To celebrate, we will be hosting a wonderful breakfast "snack bar" at our local shopping centre and from there we will walk together to school.  We are so lucky to have the support of our local shops, especially Brumby's Jesters and IGA and their car…

Champion profile - Kath Merrick

For this term’s profile we interviewed Kath Merrick our TravelSmart champion from Caralee and Phoenix Primary Schools.

What are some memorable moments coordinating activities?

There are so may magic memories and happy children’s’ faces flash by, so it’s hard to choose a favourite moment. Perhaps it was when, after much pestering, the school Principal and Deputy recognised the many benefits of having TravelSmart students and supported us joining the program.

How…
