Well, this is our first blog and, as always, it’s wonderful to be part of an active community that is so supportive of our children’s physical and mental health. Final term saw the recommencement of our Walking School Bus and it was great to see so many students eager to join. Newcomers were welcomed as many of our regular ‘school bus’ travellers had made new friends throughout the year. It’s never tiring to see that no matter how much time friends spend together, they’re always hungry for…Continue
Completed our Hands up travel survey. Our community has increased its use of riding, scooting and walking considerably. We now have 21% choosing the healthier option.
Last week the TravelSmart team completed a hands up survey. We chose a random day to complete it on, so the students came to school using their ‘usual’ means of transport. The results weren’t amazing but it is still beneficial for us to see the results of random days. Next year the TravelSmart team has set themselves a goal of completing 4 hands up surveys per term so that we have lots of data! They have also set themselves goals of how much they would like the percentage to improve…Continue
WOW what an event! The Redcliffe team had a great time at the end of year showcase. It was great seeing the schools present and we have some awesome ideas for next year. Our students enjoyed presenting and was great to see ‘kids teaching kids’. Here are some of the ideas that we really like the sound of and plan on implementing next year
The Coolbinia TS team met on Tuesday lunchtime, 12 November, to plan our final special TS event for the year. We are having a Fume Free Friday on 29 November. We organised who would make the assembly announcement about the walk/ride day, the PA announcement and advertising posters. We looked through the box of prizes for giving to TS students and planned who was going to do the survey in which class. We are working in pairs and will survey two or three classes each. We are…Continue
Last week Coolbinia PS representatives attended the 2013 TravelSmart Showcase. Ten students and two teachers attended. We travelled to City Farm by public transport - bus and train - and this was fun!
We enjoyed the day and these are some of our highlights:
It was great to see what the other schools were doing.
I really liked doing our presentation in front of students from other schools.
Winning the TravelSmart Gold…Continue
TravelSmart schools once again blew us away with their creativity, entrepreneurship and hard work featured in their end of year presentations and workshops.
Over one hundred student, teacher, parent and local government TravelSmart champions gathered to learn and celebrate. Participants loved "Hearing what other schools are doing. Meeting people that may be able to help with our TravelSmart journey." Networking, ideas, different approaches and the interactive nature of the event were…Continue

We thoroughly enjoyed the travelsmart showcase yesterday. The activities and venue were great, as was the general running of the day. We walked away with such an enthusiasm for the coming year and so many new ideas to hopefully plan for. Thanks travelsmart for such a wonderful opportunity.
A fantastic event. Thank you to all the inspirational schools and Dept of Transport staff for presenting and preparing such an informative day. Thank you!!
At a recent TravelSmart meeting the team and I discussed the issue of making our healthy breakfasts more environmentally friendly. What do you do at your school to achieve this??
We ask students to bring a bowl, plate and spoon to each breakfast so for the majority of the students bring their own things. However, we still have to supply plastic bowls and spoons for the students who forget. We were wondering how your school does the breakfasts and if anyone has any ideas about…Continue
We celebrated Walk to School day on Wednesday 23rd October. The TravelSmart team helped to organise a yummy healthy breakfast for the students who partiipated. We tried toast this time and it was a huge hit! We also had cereal available for the kids. We had a really good family turn out this year and lots of parents…
It has been quiet on the blogging front but not on our walk and wheelie program. The star cards are going great guns....We have a huge queue every Wednesday morning....Which is so great to see and as the weather continues to warm up we will expect to see more and more kids out and about on their way to school.
The travelsmart team are looking forward to the showcase next week and have enjoyed the guidance and support that Tim has provided. I'm guessing there will be a few nerves on…Continue
