The P&C committee at South Thornlie Primary challenged themselves to design and build an interactive garden for the whole school to use, in an unused sandy 700m2 area of the school with native trees. The Principal, staff and garden committee wanted students to get back in touch with their natural environment.
Over the last 12 months, with support from parents at busy bees and generous donations from the local business community, the area was transformed on a low budget and this…Continue
Our Year 4 students participated in the Be Active, Cycle Instead program run by AustCycle WA. Our school was successful in receiving a RAC Grass Roots grant which funded the course for 60 students plus allowed bike maintenance to be done on about 20 bicycles that needed seats, chains and hand brakes adjusted or repaired.
The Year 4 students used their own bikes during the 6 sessions spanning…Continue

Since a Junior Bike Rack was moved out of the bike compound on the other side of our school and put near the ECC and Junior Block, we are getting more students from PrePrimary, Year 1 and Year 2, riding to school with their parents this term. The young students can now park closer to their classrooms and take less time getting to class before the siren.
A simple but effective solution to a TIME ISSUE problem.…Continue
We are very excited to have been succesful with our Connecting School Grant application. We will be using the funds to install a sensory bike path. We envisage using lots of recycled materials including donations from families. The bike path will provide a range of experiences for the children such as different textures, colours, shapes and interesting objects. In addition we will be purchasing road signs so the children can learn road safety rules and also bike/scooter racks to…Continue
This afternoon, the Travel Wise 'adult team' met with the TravelSmart student team. The meeting was swamped with lots of enthusiasm! Many ideas, lots of good comments about the TravelSmart Showcase 2013 and many goals.
Where to start? The [Leadership] Team is quite confident and ready to discuss ideas and plans for 2014. It really was a verbal explosion chart this afternoon.
The adults in the room made a few suggestions on getting started and…
Wow...2014 Is looking great. We put out an expression of interest form for potential travesmart team members for next year and already have at least 15 students interested!!
