You can change the world by changing your trip to school!
Last Thursday we held our term 3 walk to school day. It was a good turn out considering the chilly mornings we have been having. We had three groups leaving different locations, along with people walking from their own points. We gathered around in the undercover area once at school and again IGA Beaumaris provided lovely fresh fruit for all participants. We look forward to term fours walk to school day.
On Friday our Junior Green Team hosted out 5th Footprint Friday event. This event is becoming a regular thing that more and more students and staff are getting involved in, which is amazing to see. We started off the morning with breakfast at breakfast club and gave out lots of raffle tickets with the winners drawn at lunch time and called out over the PA to come and collect their prizes after school. Today we had our Junior Green Team put the hands up surveys in registration folders and…Continue
At Applecross, we've been running the Walk to School Wednesday campaign in the past term. It happens every Wednesday of the week in the morning. The Travel Smart to School ambassadors start setting up at about 8:15 am and pack up at about 8:45 am. During the last few weeks, it has been raining so not many people walked to school. Thankfully, this week, it didn't rain so we got many cards clipped today. It is so great to see many people joining the campaign and getting healthy. Let's keep…Continue
Our TravelSmart Team meet today to plan for World Car Free Day.
World Car Free Day is on Thursday 22 September.
We made posters, worked out how to conduct the pre and post surveys, and make annoucements reminding students about being TravelSmart.Continue
During Term 3 our year 3/4 students participated in a bike education session. The students learnt a lot about bike and helmet safety. I have attached a small interview that the students constructed after the workshop along with some great photos of the experience. The students all had a great time and took away some great skills and knowledge.
The day was cold but those colourful WWU entries & the interest showed in them by passers-by made it much warmer! Plus any excuse to promote TSTS!
Getting everything ready.
The evening was used to do a bit (or a lot) of…Continue
Some of our WWU Winners with the TS Team.
The icing on the cake is seeing the happy smiles on everyone's faces. We used a backdrop of a portion of the entries to further brighten everything! (As you can see…Continue
We started our competition by all sitting down & brainstorming on how to start, how to promote it, the images to use, who will judge what, when it will start & finish, putting up the display & how the entries will be collected.
First we spread all of the entries (group by group) on tables so we could see them all at once.
Then we selected 10-12 that we liked. Next we chose the 3 that were the most eye-catching, colourful & creative. We…Continue
We did the WWU because it is cold & some people are thinking it is too cold to walk to school, but you can still be active, no matter the weather. All parts of our colouring-in competition had something to do with Active Transport and the cold weather. We did have a bit of a hard time with the pictures but we ended up getting through it.
What a great way to share tips on how to improve your experience as a public transport user - this new Transperth video - Top Tips to Improve Trips - would be great to share with your school community and will guarantee to melt hearts of all ages!

Laklelands were very excited to receive our Travelsmart sign with our SIlver level sticker :). The sign has been placed at one of the front entrances to the school for everyone to admire and our certificate was showcased at our last assembly and has now been placed in our school staffroom with our other awards :). This is a great achievement for Lakelands Primary School.
Term3 has been very busy at Lakelands Primary in regards to TravelSmart even though we have had some horrible wet weather. Our year 4 students completed a bike education workshop ( a report and photos still to come). We also had a whole school classroom competition. Kindy - Pre- Primary students were to colour or paint a one of the Walking School Bus pictures available on the website. Students from yr 1- 3 were to design a poster to encourage others to Travel actively to school and…Continue
Over the last 2 years, one of the TS Teams' goals has been to fund Bike Ed. for Years 3 & 4 students. We are pleased to say that that goal has been realized in both years. Not only has the goal been achieved on both occasions but it is significant because it has been altruistic ( our Teams funded but were not participants in Bike Ed)
Last week this year's Bike Ed concluded with Instructor Murray taking the 2 groups through their final circuits. A big thank you, Murray for your…Continue
We have had a couple of very successful Walk to School activities that we would like to share.
Footprint Wall - all those students who walked to school on that day were encouraged to decorate footprints and we then displayed them across the wall in our undercover area for all to see.…Continue
Wow! We can't believe we have been doing No Motor Monday for 6 weeks already! Today we thought we would celebrate those children who have been helping the environment by walking, scooting or cycling to school each Monday since we started. We handed out badges to 42 fantastic foot-powered people. What a great start!…Continue
Best laid plans can go out the window! The Team had judging responsibilities all sorted then a class Assembly rehearsal got in the way, depleting our numbers by half!

So we finally got the chance to take our Junior Green Team out to the front gates to see our awesome new TravelSmart to School sign! We had Heidi and Dillon place our Bronze level sticker on the sign and we all posed for some photos. We are all so proud of our achievements and can't wait to get to silver! We also took a picture with our Innovate award featuring our principle Mr Svendsen. …Continue
