You can change the world by changing your trip to school!
The terrific teaching staff on the Health Committee at South Thornlie Primary were very supportive of the P&C's interest in registering this year for Walk to School Day 2012. Parents, students and staff met at an oval 10 minutes away from the school and at 8:15am the group walked along the street and entered a lovely park that has homes backing onto it. The group of 180 students plus their parents and grandparents, strolled along the pathway, coming out to a road adjacent to the school.
Two members of the P&C gave out Free Raffle tickets at the school gate to students who participated. The Walk to School Day event launched a Term long competition to encourage the South Thornlie Primary students to walk and ride to and from school regularly. P&C members will continue to give out tickets on random mornings and afternoons every week, on streets leading to the school, as well as in the Bike Racks after school twice a week.
The students place their tickets in "The Spotty Travel Smart Box" outside the Library. The Raffle is being drawn at the end of year Christmas concert and first prize is a $400 gift voucher at a local Cycle Shop donated by our local MP Chris Tallentire. Runner- up prizes include items donated by Travel Smart organisor James Peart.
